چکیده
In this study, two cruises were conducted across the mainstream of Kuroshio off eastern Taiwan before and after passage Typhoon Saola in summer 2012. The continuous underway pCO2 (i.e., partial pressure CO2) measurements revealed that surface seawater (SS pCO2) displayed spatial variations response to typhoon passage. simulated results showed mixed-layer deepening had a minor effect on SS variation because decrease driven by temperature dropdown enhanced biological production fueled nutrients input was largely compensated increase caused salinity dissolved inorganic carbon from subsurface layer. By contrast, advection pattern significant change typhoon, which could play major role controlling pCO2. exit area cyclonic eddy, decreased, while its arrival, increased. Besides, discharge freshwater intrusion South China Sea result nearshore area. present study highlights more changes need be considered better understand impact pCO2, especially strong current area, such as Kuroshio.

Ocean acoustic tomography (OAT) is a powerful tool that can estimate the structure of sound speed (mainly proportional to temperature) and current in the ocean (Munk et al., 1995). Other than coastal sea studies (e.g., Park and Kaneko, 2000), most previous experiments have been carried out in the open ocean, characterized with a full structure of the underwater sound channel (Worcester, 1985; C...
متن کاملMelioidosis Outbreak after Typhoon, Southern Taiwan
From July through September 2005, shortly after a typhoon, 40 cases of Burkholderia pseudomallei infection (melioidosis) were identified in southern Taiwan. Two genotypes that had been present in 2000 were identified by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. Such a case cluster confirms that melioidosis is endemic to Taiwan.

that the actual prevalence of plague seems to be underestimated. The low population density in Mongolia explains the low amount of illness in humans. Further investigations should include the screening of rodent populations near the plaguepositive loci. In addition, fl eas and other parasites (and also predators of small mammals) should be studied. Mongolia is a key area of plague genesis and t...

Sixteen (72.7%) cats contained R. felis–reactive antibodies; 4 of them showed titers to R. felis at least 4-fold higher than those to the other 5 rickettsial strains, fi ndings that enabled us to technically conclude that these cats ...
متن کاملTransport Reversal Due to Typhoon Krosa in the Taiwan Strait
A comprehensive hydrodynamic model, COMCOT-S, has been aimed at transport reversal in the Taiwan Strait during the period of Typhoon KROSA in 2007. The numerical model is originally based on COMCOT, and a parametric wind model with atmospheric sub-model is imbedded in COMCOT-S for simulating the typhoon-induced currents. The transport characteristics through the Taiwan Strait under the influenc...
